Bjorn Kjos, the chief executive of Norwegian, commented: "Norwegian has since the start in 2002 become Scandinavia's largest low fare airline.
The FlyNordic brand will remain in place and Norwegian will continue to focus on low fares for passengers, as well as improvements to the airline website and automated check-in.

Round the world for £500

It had to happen. You can now fly around the world entirely on low-cost airlines.
At first, the £500 round-the-worlder will be limited to a small range of cities. You’ll fly Oasis Airlines (http://www.oasishongkong.com/) from Gatwick to Hong Kong for £150 (including taxes), then pay Oasis another £150 to hop on to Oakland — just across the bay from San Francisco’s main airport. From there, fly to Las Vegas and then on to New York with JetBlue (http://www.jetblue.com/; from £125). From New York, it’s back to Gatwick with Zoom (http://www.flyzoom.com/; from £129). That trip comes in at about £550, but cut out Vegas — or fly back via Toronto instead of New York, using WestJet (http://www.westjet.com/) — and you’re down to £500.

Ryanair Chief O'Leary to Start Trans-Atlantic Airline

Ryanair Holdings Plc Chief Executive Officer Michael O'Leary plans to start a discount trans-Atlantic airline, offering fares as low as $12, following the ``open skies'' accord between the U.S. and European Union.

The new airline would fly from Ryanair's existing bases including London Stansted, Dublin and Frankfurt-Hahn, O'Leary said today in a briefing to reporters. The carrier would go to secondary U.S. airports at destinations including New York, San Francisco, San Diego, Boston, Dallas and Florida.
The agreement to open up the market for trans-Atlantic flights will make the new airline possible, O'Leary said. The new carrier would compete against network airlines including British Airways Plc and Virgin Atlantic Airways on lucrative trans-Atlantic routes.

SunExpress adds new routes from London Stansted

The Turkey’s low cost scheduled airline that was founded as a joint venture by Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, is to launch two new routes on Saturday, 28 April from London Stansted to Izmir (Turkey) and Ercan (Northern Cyprus).

The new twice-weekly scheduled services will link London to Izmir, which is Turkey’s third largest city, second largest port, and the gateway to the Aegean Coast. Ercan is the international airport that serves the resorts and towns in Northern Cyprus. The new routes are in addition to SunExpress’ existing twice-weekly service launched in February between London Stansted and Antalya on the Turkish Riviera.

“It is always a challenge to launch a new airline and new routes into a market, but we have been delighted by the response in the UK from both the travel trade and our passengers to SunExpress and the Antalya service. Over 80 percent of our customers on the route have been UK residents,” says Michael Buck - Commercial Director of SunExpress. “With summer just around the corner we feel it is the right time to expand our activities in the UK and launch these two additional routes from London Stansted to Izmir and Ercan.” ´

Vueling

Meanwhile, Vueling will begin flying between Malaga and Santiago de Compostela. They will fly three times per week on this route from 24 May 2007. Flights can be booked at www.vueling.com.
