Summer expansions for Centralwings

Centralwings will expand the number of routes that they fly from their Warsaw base for the summer 2007 season.

Throughout the next few months they will begin flying from Warsaw to Chania, Malta, Catania, Palermo, Thessaloniki, Faro, Varna, Heraklion and Rhodos.

They will also launch flights from Katowice to Rhodos and from Krakow to Lisbon.

EasyJet with new routes!

EasyJet’s Scottish network is to be increased with a new route between Edinburgh and Dortmund. The no-frills airline will operate four flights a week from Edinburgh to Dortmund from May 30.

EasyJet will begin flying between Bristol International and Milan in two months' time.
EasyJet will operate the daily service from April 23, 2007, with single tickets starting at just £24.99 and return flights available from £42.98.
The route is expected to carry 100,000 passengers in its first year, with high demand from business and leisure travellers alike.

Click Air announced new routes!

Clickair, the Catalan low-cost airline, will be flying to Malta in the coming months, the airline has announced.

Malta features among the 22 new destinations that will be offered to customers flying out from the El Prat airport in Barcelona.

The airline was set up last May with 20 per cent of its capital held by Iberia, the Spanish national airline. At the time, the low-cost airline had stated its ambitions were to reach the target of carrying 300,000 passengers with five planes in 2006 rising to 10 million passengers, 30 planes and more than 70 destinations by 2008.

The airline has also announced it will start flying to Casablanca and Marrakesh in April, the first low cost flights to North Africa from a Spanish airport.

Apart from flying to Malta, the airline will also be flying to Tunis, Moscow, Helsinki, Vienna, Budapest, Warsaw and Dubrovnik and to the Italian cities of Palermo, Venice, Verona, Naples and Rome.

The airline will in all be flying to 24 new destinations: 20 international and four internal.

Winter timetable for Manchester launched by Monarch

Monarch has released details of its winter timetable from Manchester Airport, with increased frequencies and a new route.

The airline's winter schedule for the 2007/2008 period includes the launch of a service from Manchester to Murcia, which is set to begin operating from February 8, next year.

There will also be an extension into the winter months of Monarch's current service to Jerez and flights from Manchester to Palma recommence on February 7, 2008.

Tickets are now on sale and come soon after the airline announced details of its winter service from both Luton and Birmingham, while details of its flights from Gatwick will soon be released.

Vueling with international base. EasyJet with new routes

The Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling, based in Spain, are to make Paris (Charles de Gaulle) their first base outside Spain.

They have requested additional landing slots from the end of March 2007 to facilitate this.

EasyJet
EasyJet will add two new routes from their Dortmund base on 30 May 2007.

These will include flights to Edinburgh (4 times per week) and Thessaloniki (3 times per week).

My Air will fly to Bucharest and Paris (CDG)

MyAirItalian low-cost airline MyAir will begin flights from Bucharest (Baneasa) to Barcelona.

Flights will begin on 01 June 2007. This will be a new departure for them because currently, all of their routes from Bucharest (Baneasa) are to destinations in Italy.

They will also begin flights from Genoa to Paris (Charles de Gaulle ). There will be flights four times per week on this route from 01 May 2007.

The carrier beat competition from 170 competitors in the airline category, with more than 90 per cent of customers who reviewed the airline recommending it to others.

They were particularly impressed by the good quality customer service, reliability and value for money offered by Jet2.com, and placed it ahead of other no-frills carriers as well as full-service airlines.

Just in time for the launch of clickair at Barcelona, Spanish competitor Vueling will launch flights from Jerez to Barcelona. Vueling will begin flights on this route at the end of March 2007, whereas clickair are not due to commence flying this route until August.
Vueling will also launch flights from Jerez to Madrid at the same time. Flights are on sale at www.vueling.com.

Click Air
The recently launched Spanish low-cost airline, clickair, has launched an assault on the competition at Barcelona airport. Over the coming months they will launch 11 new routes, including flights to Verona (Villafranca), Venice (Marco Polo), Naples, Rome (Fiumicino), Pisa, Helsinki, Bucharest (Otopeni), Budapest, Vienna, Jerez and Warsaw.
They will also launch two new routes from Seville to London (Gatwick) and La Coruna.

Norwegian
Norwegian Air Shuttle will begin flights from Oslo (International) to destinations in Turkey. From the beginning of May 2007, they will begin flights to Antalya. They will also begin flights to Istanbul (Sabiha) on 02 June. These flights are already on sale at www.norwegian.no.

CentralWings
Polish low-cost airline Centralwings has announced that the three flights to Warsaw, Gdansk and Katowic will be available for booking as part of its winter 2007/08 schedule. The new routes are in addition to three times a week routes between Dublin and Wroclaw, Katowice and Gdansk, which were announced recently for 2007/08.

Easyjet
The no-frills carrier is launching a four-times weekly service from Edinburgh that will start on May 30 and is aimed at business and tourist travellers visiting Germany's sixth largest city.

'Unlucky' airline logo grounded

The new Belgian carrier, Brussels Airlines, has been forced to change its logo following complaints from superstitious passengers.

The 13 dots making up the stylised 'b' brought a flood of complaints about the "unlucky" design.
The airline, which formally launches on 25 March, said it was taken aback by the strength of feeling and felt obliged to respond.

It has now altered the design to incorporate an additional dot.
Brussels Airlines was formed from the merger of SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express.
Brussels Airlines spokesman Geert Sciot said: "They [passengers] said they were not pleased with an aircraft with a logo with 13 balls because they think it brings them bad luck.
"We are never surprised by reactions - but that it was that bad? It really took us aback," he said.

Luckily, Brussels Airlines is not flying to China, where 14 is a definite no-no. Fourteen, or one-four, in Mandarin, sounds like the phrase "to want to die."

Low cost flights to Israel may soon be available

Talks have taken place between the Israeli transport minister and representatives of both easyJet and bmi about the possibility of new flights between the UK and Israel.

According to TheMarker newspaper, Israeli Transport Minister Gideon Siterman has been in discussions with both airlines in an attempt to arrange a deal.

Although nothing has been agreed, both airlines appear keen to talk to the minister, and if the flights get the go ahead both easyJet and bmi would be pitched against British Airways.

Last year the Israeli Tourism Minister said that he hoped to see a low-cost operator offer flights from UK airports, and mentioned that he had held discussions with both easyJet and Ryanair.

Ryanair to provide 1 million "free" flights

Ryanair, announced that it will give away 1,000,000 "free" flights "when" Ireland beat England in the 6 Nations rugby clash in Croke Park this Saturday.

Announcing the pre match incentive, Ryanair’s Peter Sherrard said:

"This is the first time that the English have been invited to Croke Park and we’ve no doubt that it will be an occasion to savour. To help the Irish team on to their 4^th consecutive victory against England, we will give away 1,000,000 free flights when they win. That way, the Irish fans can fly to England to boast about the win, while the English fans can avoid the television replays with free* escape flights!"

"The 1,000,000 victory seats will be made available from Monday morning, when we hope the whole of Ireland will have something to gloat about".

Flybe increases flights to Scotland

Low-cost airline Flybe has announced a major increase in the number of flights offered from Birmingham to Scotland.

From March 25, the Exeter-based airline will operate nine daily return flights from Birmingham to Edinburgh and from Birmingham to Glasgow.

Demand for travel between England's second city and Scotland has been consistently high for some time and Flybe is expecting considerable interest in its improved service.

Air Southwest to begin Newquay to Cork flights

Air Southwest is to begin a new service between Newquay Airport and Cork in southern Ireland from May 4 this year.

With prices beginning at £27 one-way (including taxes), flights will initially operate three times per week on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. From June, an additional flight will operate on Wednesdays.

The trip takes less than an hour, with flights leaving Newquay at 11.20am and touching down in Cork at 12.10pm. Coming back, flights take off at 12.55pm and land back in Cornwall at 1.45pm.

Querelle Meridiana-AirOne: stop to the flights for Lampedusa

As from March 25, 2007, the flight towards Lampedusa island, operated by Meridiana, will be cancelled.

It will be possible to realize the last flight on March 24, 2007.

This fact is linked to the querelle between Meridiana and AirOne, the carrier that awarded the call for bids for the connection. So, Meridiana had a recourse to the administrative tribunal of Lazio (TAR) and is waiting for the verdict that should have to be pronounced within March 1st, 2007.

Aer Lingus reported to plan first base outside Ireland

Former State airline Aer Lingus is planning to establish its first base outside Ireland.

The move is said to be part of an expansion which will allow the airline to establish 15 new European routes between destinations outside Ireland. The airline has already shortlisted three airports for its first foreign hub.

A report in the Irish Independent says that according to industry sources, it is likely the base will be the first of several which will give Aer Lingus major new opportunities to increase revenue.

New Routes

Ryanair : from Granada Airport, to East Midlands Airport in Nottingham. The airline will fly the link three times a week. The company is currently offering a promotional price of 2.99 €.

EasyJet will begin flying to Brussels (International) from their Geneva base, and flights will begin on 29 June 2007. This may come as a surprise to many, because Brussels (International) is frequently avoided by low-cost airlines due to the expense of landing there.

VLM: has announced that it will be launching an extra return service between London City Airport and Manchester on March 1st.The airline announced a new service between Rotterdam and Manchester last December, which is set to begin on February 26th.

Monarch: Flights in Monarch's 2007/2008 winter schedule from Birmingham and Luton - which includes increased service on many routes - are now on sale at www.flymonarch.com.

Blue Air: Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air will begin flights from the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca to Barcelona. They will begin flying from 27 March 2007.

The new Spanish low-cost airline Clickair will go into direct competition with Vueling with their latest route announcement. From 26 March 2007, clickair will operate flights from Malaga to Bilbao, which is also a route offered by rival Vueling.

Norwegian Air Shuttle will begin flights from Oslo (International) to Palma. Their new weekly flights will begin on 12 May 2007. Tickets are on sale at www.norwegian.no.

Air Berlin will begin flights from their Berlin (Tegel) base to Gothenburg (Saeve). They will fly six times per week from 02 May 2006, and flights can be booked now at www.airberlin.com.

No-frills airline bmibaby will begin a new route from Birmingham to Jersey as part of an expansion drive at the West Midlands airport. From May 24, flights will operate four times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with the frequency likely to increase to twice daily over the coming 12 months. There will be another new route between Cardiff and Murcia. They will fly twice per week from 27 March 2007.

Thomsonfly, Cardiff's biggest operator with a total of 27 routes, is increasing capacity to Jersey and introducing a new route to Barcelona from May 25, with a lead flight price of £22.99.

Aer Arann, which has been building up its network from Cardiff since last year with flights to Cork, Dublin, Galway and Lorient in Brittany, adds a second route to France, to Nantes, from March in time for the Rugby World Cup. The airline's typical UK flights to Nantes cost from £49 one way including taxes.

Flybe is a new base carrier at Cardiff International from May, starting out with flights to Belfast City. It is a considerably large carrier, having absorbed British Airways' regional arm, BA Connect. Its Belfast City route could cost around £20 for a one-way flight, including taxes and charges.

First Choice is seeing excellent bookings for niche products like cruise packages. It adds Kos in Greece from Cardiff this summer. Prices have not yet been announced.
